Understand yourself – through the openness in your Human Design chart.
Your Human Design chart shows you some parts which are coloured in and some parts are not. That is where you have definition; a consistent energy theme. And where you have openness.
Your openness does contribute significantly to helping you understand how you work, how you operate.
Just to be clear, here’s what I’m talking about:

You can see from my chart  here I have some parts that are white – that’s openness. Some parts are coloured in – that’s definition. In understanding my chart it really helped me to see a lot about the way that I had done things over time. Especially when I learned about the openness in my emotional solar plexus centre – where you recognise, engage and calibrate your emotional energy. For me as an emotional Empath, that made absolute sense. Because this centre in my chart is open, I sense pick up, or absorb other people’s emotional energy.
Over time, and for many, many years, other people’s emotions really impacted the way that I was feeling.
I remember a really clear moment when the penny dropped and I came to understand how this works. One day in 2023, after a really good high vibe kind of a day, I was feeling really positive. My lovely husband came home and he’d not had such a good day.
Within about a half an hour, all of a sudden I started to feel really negative. I remember thinking ‘I don’t understand this. I was feeling perfectly fine before what is this all about?’.
Then it came to me. I realised it’s not me these are not my emotions. These feelings don’t belong to me. And with that I was able to just notice them, support him through the rubbish day that he was having – but not become emotional about something that was nothing to do with me.
That’s not to say that I didn’t sympathise with him. But I was no longer feeling all of those feelings and owning them as my truth.
Where you have openness in your chart – we’re not talking about just the emotional solar plexus anywhere in your chart, you don’t have consistently defined energy. That means that you are open to experiencing whatever those feelings, thoughts or truths might be, in whatever way you interpret. It is you amplifying that energy – but also you find your own way to engage with it. Because it’s not consistent, you have that choice.
In your openness, you have the option to say ‘this is how I choose to understand or be inspired by this thing. This is what I choose to take with me’. You can leave the rest.
Once I learned that, this was now something I got to experiment with – because human design is an experiment . It really helped me to start to see that sometimes when I was feeling really flat, perhaps it wasn’t my emotions at all.
There are times with the openness in your chart, that borrowing somebody else’s inspiration ideas or other energy for a while can be really empowering and useful. Something that you can run with. But you still need to be clear that if it’s not something that’s consistent for you, you don’t own it as your truth.
You’re just borrowing it for a while – eventually it won’t be there for you in quite the same way. Guiding you to understand as much about who you are, as who you’re not.
That goes back to the original discovery of human design by Ra Uru Hu in 1987, which was all about recognising the ‘not self’.
All of those parts of you that are not part of your story, are not part of your truth.
When you see it in that way, you start to see yourself through different eyes.
The G Centre in human design is another place where you experience identifying with someone or something that isn’t you. It’s part of the heart chakra – as coloured in here on the chart.

That is the centre for love and direction. And that centre is something gives you something about your sense of self.
If you have openness here, the people, opportunities and things that you come into contact with feel good for you so you take them on. But when they’re consistently not part of who you are, they don’t last. Sometimes you might take something as inspiration of somebody’s way of being and feel as though it’s yours and actually then discover.
Well, that wasn’t really anything to do with me. This happens sometimes in client sessions.. They’ll look back they reflect and they’re saying now I understand why this situation happened. I owned it as my truth. I ran with it. And then I got to a point where I felt so confused. This doesn’t feel like me. Some of those things evolve over time and you realise this is who part of the story of who you are – then there’s all this other stuff.
And those light bulb moments, honestly, I wish I could bottle them because I’ve seen so many of them.
And they’re so empowering because they really do help you see directly who you are in a way that you can’t really unsee. It is just so empowering to understand what it actually means to really get to know the truth of who you are.
In your human design chart there are lots of different aspects of consistency/definition. Those things that are available for you, you can take forwards when you know more about these parts of you. And then you recognise the parts of you that were part of your story, but no longer belong. You’ll find a way to make peace with those things and really get to know in your core who you actually are.
In teaching about human design I get to help people understand themselves through this loving lens. I’m pretty much on that journey with you but – perhaps – a little bit further ahead. As I have these insights, and discoveries, I share them all because my chart shows me that I’m here to share by experience.
If this experience has resonated with you – comment on this post and let me know!
