I’ve had some interesting conversations with clients recently around the topic of change and how we often find ourselves shying away from it. We try to pretend that that’s not going to make any difference. Maybe we think it’s a little bit too scary because we don’t know what it might mean or what could happen for us if we start to make some change.
The thing is, if we don’t try experimenting with something, doing it a little differently to see what happens (it doesn’t have to be something major) but if we don’t experiment a little bit, then how are we ever going to find out what else is possible for us?
How are we ever going to fully step forward into the energy of change
or doing something in a different way, for us to be able to benefit from a shift in that energy?
As an example, I recently decided to try intermittent fasting. The reason why I decided to go for the intermittent fasting was because I’d been I’d actually got myself into a place where I was starting to look in the mirror and just be unhappy about what I was doing to myself, I needed to stop eating, and stop drinking so much.
We all go through these phases, and tell ourselves, it’s okay, it’s only one chocolate bar. It’s only one ice cream. It’s only one glass of wine, half a bottle, maybe a bottle (no judgement whatsoever). And we kid ourselves that it’s not really doing us any harm. But then find we’re in a place where we’re not feeling good. Not feeling like we’re being fair to ourselves, kind to ourselves, giving ourselves the best possible opportunity to grow, evolve, change, expand, move into something new.
If that’s not happening, because of not making an effort to do one tiny thing differently, what’s the wider impact of that?
For me, it was quite a major deal, deciding that I needed to either stop eating quite so much, (with no measure of what that looked like. I didn’t really want to look at it to be honest). My evening snacking was getting ridiculous. I was having bigger and bigger bowls of cereal. I was having meals and quite a lot of snacks between meals.
The way that tends to work for me when I do these things is I have what I like to call a pattern interrupt. Instead of going from this to gradually reducing things, I like to put a full stop in place.
This helps me change direction, do something that breaks that pattern or cycle that hasn’t been really working.
In the past when I’ve started weight loss projects, such as back in 2011 I began on a healthier eating mission. I lost three and a half stone all by myself (no weight watchers, slimming world none of those). And the reason that I did it was because I wasn’t feeling very fit – that’s kind of been the same for me this time around. So there’s a little bit of a theme.
I did the watercress soup diet where just have watercress soup for a week and not very much else, apart from some fruit and some vegetables. It does kind of reset your system. So this was what I did to just kind of shake me up a little bit and then be ready to go. When I finished doing that (because you only do it for a week, it’s not recommended to do it for any longer) I felt ready to look at changing things and doing some things a little differently.
You can use this approach with absolutely anything.
It doesn’t have to be about your eating habits. Maybe you’ve got absolutely nothing wrong with your diet and you’re feeling fit and healthy. And that is absolutely wonderful because you’re taking care of yourself which is brilliant. Maybe you’re having engagements with people that you feel it’s not really working for some reason and you need to do something differently. Maybe you need a little bit of a step back.
Maybe the way that you’re doing your work. If you’re self employed, maybe that’s not working and you need to shake things up a bit there, find a different different rhythm, go to a different networking meeting, meet new people to share your business journey with.
There are so many different things that we can actually just keep doing and telling ourselves that it’s not working
but not really looking for ways to mix or change it up a bit.
Are there things that you can just take a full stop and see that the reset button has been hit, so you can take stock, look at it in whatever way you want and then be ready to go off and do something in a different way.

Now let’s look through the lens of Quantum Human Design™
One thing for me that was really helpful to discover and understand from my chart wherever I have consistent energy available is what often shows up, but there are also areas where I don’t. One of the areas that I don’t have have consistent energy is in my will centre (insert pic here)
For the resources of actually applying myself fully 100% 24/7 I don’t have that energy consistently available. I don’t use that as an excuse not to do things, but what it’s helped me to understand is perhaps that’s the reason why sometimes I feel so much more motivated to do things than at other times. I wrote about this in my self help book as well, (go here to check that out) that we can often start the day with an abundance of willpower, which we use up throughout the day, hence finding it harder to push ourselves to keep going and keep doing. So convincing yourself not to have anything else to eat or not to pick up that second chocolate bar or have that third glass of beer, that energy isn’t actually available for you to resist.
Understanding that for me personally as a general theme, I see why I struggle some times more than others (and it can also depend who you’re spending your time around and what stories you have had drummed into you over the years.)
The question I would ask myself about this might be how can I use this information? How can I see what I really need my willpower for? In the past few months, it’s been all about my business, which is one of the reasons why some of my other mindset has shifted. Until I’m now ready to see that it’s time to change that a little bit. I’ve done what I needed to do with my work for the time being. It’s not so intensive. Making this shift actually makes me feel so differently about myself. Even just looking in the mirror in the morning. I see a woman who’s giving it her best shot. Who hasn’t just given up and can’t be bothered to worry about what I eat. I’m actually giving it a go.
This also changed the conversations I was having with myself.
So if there’s something that for you is not working and you’re feeling like actually I do need to hit pause. Maybe you need a little bit of gentle guidance with that. Just book in a free clarity call. We can explore what’s next for you, see where we can help you redirect some of your energy and start to figure out what is working or what isn’t working and understand some of the whys around that as well. I look forward to hearing from you.

Today’s card is the letter K Know Yourself
Trust your instincts, what do you need? Right now? What would feel best?
So this ties in quite well with thinking about what you have that willpower energy for whether or not there’s something that you could do with more willpower and whether there’s something else that’s taking all of your attention and your time and that’s why you’re struggling. Get to know what that looks like so that you can maybe just do a little bit of a shift around and reevaluate.
The affirmation for this card says “I make time to know myself”.
