Accept Yourself

This comes to you with a promise of creating the time and space you need, to think about what you want, and help you find gentle heartfelt ways to move slowly towards something that feels more like you, so you can start to accept who you are, how far you’ve come and what that means for you in your life right now.

I feel as though accepting yourself can be one of the hardest things to do. So for now, let’s just plant the seed of giving you the opportunity to think about what you currently do – or have – that you are accepting. When I talk about accepting, I’m not talking about settling, these are slightly different things.

Settling is ‘making do’, while accepting is understanding and appreciating what it is you might be going through, how you might be feeling or what might have happened to you in such a way that you value what it has to offer you. So it might be that you’ve been through a big change, perhaps it was quite unsettling and traumatic, but now you’ve moved through it and found a way to make your peace with it. Or maybe you’re not there yet, but you can see that it’s on the way.

Accepting yourself is about getting to know who you are – for you and how that feels in your world. Because the more that you can find peace within yourself, just for you – not for anybody else (because this isn’t about anybody else) – when you can do that, you can really then start to put things in their right place. And when you find some things that maybe you’re not comfortable with in your life, or they don’t feel right for you any more, you’ll get to know whether or not they are something you want to deal with and ‘reframe’. You’ll come to an understanding of whether or not they are something that you actually want as part of your world any more.

If you can’t accept yourself in the way that you are, then it gives you information.

All of the HEARTfelt Habits I have shared so far are about giving you information. And when you look at it as just something that gives you that insight, if you can detach the emotion from it, that just makes it a little bit easier to process. Hopefully that makes sense.

These little steps will help you build up a picture or a series of pieces of information that tell you who you are, what you want, what feels good, what works, and also what doesn’t. You will gradually start to get clearer and clearer what you are looking for, or how you want to be – how you want to show up, what you want in your world.

For some this is going to be more difficult. Just a reminder that we’re only on week four of this series – each and every one is like a little layer. So sometimes it might require more time and attention from you. Sometimes it might just be a very small simple thing you need to contemplate that either adds to, or takes away from what it is you’re trying to achieve. I don’t mean to detract from it but these little adjustments can be all about letting go of things.

Sometimes you’re looking at building on an idea and other times you’re just slowing down a bit and taking stock. So you can evaluate and work out the next steps – and I’ll be here if you realise you need a little help with that.

You are always welcome to book in a call with me so we can take a look at it together – in a gentle, compassionate way. I look forward to hearing from you.
