Patience is a Virtue

Can we talk about waiting?

I’ve been exploring the theme of patience for many years. I learned early on that some things really do need to happen in right time. But that feels too hard sometimes.

So how good are you at waiting? Or, to rephrase the question – how patient are you? I took the glorious event of my son’s first day at college today to remind myself just how patient we can be, sometimes without realising it. When he was 6 or 7, I started to wonder if he’d ever be able to draw something more than a standard stick man. He would doodle for hours as he grew, sometimes with amazing results – he was definitely the epitome of patience.

These days he spends a lot of his spare time honing his craft – trying out different mediums, paints, pastels, pencils – and has become an incredibly talented artist as a result (he’s actually gone to study art at college!). He’s not afraid to experiment and be patient with himself.

So why are we in so much of a rush to get to where we’re going?

What is it that tells us we need to be who we’re trying to be, get to that place we dream of, in such a rushed pace? I didn’t say I had all the answers but these are interesting enough questions to contemplate.

One thing I do know is that the theme of patience in the Human Design chart gives us a lot of information about what we’re really waiting for. Waiting for a sign from the Universe. Waiting to be ‘in the flow’, to be ready. What about doing things to see where it takes us and taking note of what we encounter on the journey? Why can’t we just do that? The time will pass anyway.

How does patience show up in your life? I’d love to know if you’re experimenting with trusting that the moment will come. Comment and let me know.
