Your Human Design chart is a Modern Alchemy of Ancient Wisdom. So where did Human Design originate from? How is your Quantum Human Designâ„¢ chart formed? What’s the difference between those two? And how does that then apply to you?
Ready to explore? I hope you’re sitting comfortably.
Feel free to scroll down to the heading that piques your interest most, and explore that as a topic all by itself, if you so wish!
Just to set the scene. I first discovered Human Design in early 2022, or should I say IT found ME!
It felt so truthful in that moment. Hearing about the different types made sense of experiences in my life, with myself and others. I didn’t understand – or feel the need to understand in that moment – HOW exactly this powerful self-knowledge system came to be. I just knew that it felt almost immediately like a truth I was ready to receive.
As a Line 1 profile (The Resource in Quantum Human Designâ„¢, or the Investigator in Traditional language), that was all I needed. Let the investigating begin! I began to find my own understanding of the definitions, what they meant for WHO I AM. Going on to explore how that then made sense of my life story so far.
But the themes within this question “How is Human Design a Modern Alchemy of Ancient Wisdom”? came about for me early in 2024.
I was delivering a talk about the system at a Mind, Body, Spirit event, and was approached by a quantum physicist.
HOW exactly does this have anything to do with quantum physics? he asked.
What a great question! At the time, although I had enough knowledge to form a response, it didn’t contain the depth of knowledge he was seeking.
I was okay with that, for the time being.
The reply I gave would have been enough for many who attend these events. But in that moment, standing as an expert in this system, I felt called to have a much clearer response. This brought me around to exploring here the 5 main elements that make up this deeply insightful system. I’m sharing those with you today.
Ready? Is your cuppa nice and hot? Let’s dive in!
To honour this powerful synthesis, described here as a modern alchemy of ancient wisdom, it’s important to share how it came about.
During a mystical experience in January 1987, a Canadian man named Robert Krakower – referred to here as Ra Uru Hu, his chosen name – heard a voice which spoke clearly ‘Are you ready to work?’.
Over the following 8 days and 8 nights he consciously received what we have come to know as this system today. It took him years to form it into words that might help him explain it to others. He was chosen as the messenger of Human Design.
Interesting to note: we all received this information at that time. It was Ra Uru Hu who received it consciously. He was chosen to interpret, understand and eventually share the system.
Ra began the mission of ‘waking up’ all those who had been in the sleepy, conditioned state. This was the state he called the ‘Not Self’ by processing and then sharing the information with those ready to receive it.
Good so far? Excellent.
Over time, the language of the traditional system – including this ‘not self’ mentioned – began to feel misaligned. Many were already waking up from the ‘sleepy’ state.
The more people who began waking up; to their potential, to higher frequencies, to their truth – the less this original language resonated. Some might say they found it a little negative and disempowering.
In no way meant to be disrespectful to Ra’s body of work, but Karen Curry Parker – the creator of the Quantum Human Designâ„¢ language – had a deep knowing. She had worked alongside Ra. As one of his remaining students alive today – she knew of his intention to one day recraft it. He was going to call this the ‘Enlightened Rave I-Ching’. Unfortunately he passed away in March 2011 from a heart attack before his realisation could be made manifest.
Karen’s mission to transform this insightful system into a potent, higher frequency language began. This language was written (and tested in a laboratory) to speak to potential. This is the language used in Quantum Human Designâ„¢.
Now we have a starting point for the origins of Quantum/Human Design. Let’s take a closer look.
It’s a synthesis, a mix, a potent blend of ancient wisdom and modern science – some called it magic rooted in science! Also known as the Science of Differentiation. This blend being Eastern and Western Astrology, the Hindu Chakras, the Chinese I-Ching, the Judaic Kabbalah AND Quantum physics.
Blending ancient wisdom from as far back as 3,000 years ago, with modern science, you have a powerful tool for exploring the world.
But HOW – I can still hear you asking! I promised I’d deliver, so here we go.
For context, here’s a copy of my unique energetic blueprint. This is my Quantum Human Design™ chart.

Eastern AND Western Astrology?
Isn’t that a contradiction in terms? Nope. Let me explain.
When you ‘run’ your Quantum/Human Design chart (go here to do that), it’s calculated by using the following:
Your date, time and place of birth.

With these details, the placements on the 360° astrological wheel become apparent.
Your horoscope (broadly depicted through Western astrology) helps make sense of the nature of you, who you are as a person.
Every planetary placement as shown on the chart is expressed in one of the 64 gates. Gates refer to those numbers you find down each side of your chart. Just like the first image of mine in this post. Each of these in turn changes the ‘flavour’ of the planetary influence on that specific gate.
Make sense so far? Good.
And the Eastern part, I hear you ask?
In Vedic, or Hindu astrology, the themes of expression are more Karmic. This relates to nature and your destiny. The influence of the planetary energies shows global cyclical themes, such as:
Your planetary ‘return’ cycles, the challenges and gifts you experience on the journey of life. Sometimes happening on repeat, over time. This is influenced by which planet/s those lessons happen through. Some of the themes may be expressed in more than one place on your chart. This is key to understanding your soul curriculum, through the lens of this empowering modality.
Okay – happy so far? I’m keeping going if you’re good.
The Hindu Chakra system
You may notice from looking at the chart that there are 9 energy centres. Yet the chakra system has 7 main chakras (plus your earth and soul star chakras, but we’ll put those aside for the purposes of this).
In 1781, with the discovery of Uranus, and as part of our global evolution, the Heart chakra and the Solar Plexus chakra also evolved, giving us separate energy themes.
The Heart became the G centre (Calibration), focusing on love, identity, and direction. The Ego centre (Resource) focused on the egoic self, willpower, and energetic integrity.

As our energetic selves evolved, our centre for Creativity in Quantum Human Designâ„¢ (the Emotional Solar Plexus centre) kept the emotional theme, relating to how we experience this energy. Self Actualization in Quantum Human Designâ„¢ became the theme of the spleen centre. A more instinctive and in-the-moment energy, giving us deep insight into how we actualize what we’re experiencing in the now.
Fundamentally, the 7 chakras inspired the themes of these 9 centres, with some small differences in the themes. For example; The Head centre doesn’t fully mirror the Crown chakra. What it does is help connect you to your higher self.
The centres in the Human Design chart are all what you might like to think of as points where the energy comes to gather together to be expressed through your unique blueprint.
The Chinese I-Ching
An ancient, philosophical text – one of the oldest in existence – written approximately 3,000 years ago.
Used by many as a divination tool, whether by reading the book or consulting the corresponding hexagram. Each of the hexagrams (64 in total, exactly the same number as gates in the Human Design chart) has what you’d call an ‘Archetypal’ theme expressed through it. These themes, like self-expression or compassion, are reflected in the hexagrams.
The I-Ching, the world’s oldest Oracle, and an ancient divination text, serves as a philosophical guide to understanding the complexities of life. This ancient guide shares about Yin and Yang as concepts and principles, emphasising the constant nature of change through the seasons.
You can also find thematic links to the 64 codons as expressed through the work of the Gene Keys – based on the idea that the human genome holds deep spiritual wisdom. It assigns specific meanings to each of the 64 codons, but I’ll save that for another post!
If you look back at the Mandala image above, you’ll see the placement of the hexagrams captured around the outer edge of the chart.
The Judaic Kabbalah
The branches of the Kabbalistic ‘Tree of Life’ move life force energy through your body.
Connecting the spheres on this tree, these branches work just like the channels in your Human Design chart. From the top, the spheres’ arrangement mirrors the layout of your Human Design energy centres.

Each of these spheres and the branches connecting them also have Archetypal themes with Meridian lines being entry points for the energy, moving it from the root to the tip, energising you at a frequency that matches your vibrational field.
A loving reminder that each of these beautiful, ancient wisdoms have many deep and transformative insights available to all those who choose to explore them. This post is really intended to gently introduce you to these concepts, not as a definitive guide.
More about this Modern Alchemy of Ancient Wisdom…
Quantum Physics
Now for the science part (and the original reason I’m sat here writing this in the first place!).
Ever heard of Neutrinos? Or the Neutrino stream? Possibly not. Okay, get your lab coat on and let’s dive in…
A definition of Quantum Physics, from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) tells us this:
Quantum Physics is the study of matter and energy at the most fundamental level. It aims to uncover the properties and behaviours of the very building blocks of nature.
Back to those neutrinos… Neutrinos are teeny, tiny, eensy, weensy sub-atomic (think infinitesimally small) particles that come from the exhalation of stars and planets across the Universe. I know, right? Think of them as your energy.

These tiny dots contain energetic information that shapes our personality, based on the celestial bodies’ positions at our birth.
Informing our conscious/personality side of the Human Design chart, on the right hand side. As well as the ones that collide with us approximately 88 days before birth, when our soul energy enters our earthly body (that’s the unconscious/design left hand side of the chart, often seen in red).
These minute particles ‘pick up’ this information as they travel, and as it imprints upon you, it brings those unique expressions into your being.
Approximately 70% of this information comes from the sun (the biggest body of energy by far) with a tiny amount from Jupiter (maybe because of the sheer size of her? I can’t explain that myself) and the rest comes from all the other planets.
More than 6 trillion of these move through your body every single day.
Yep, they’re tiny-small.
They ‘stream’ in and out on the daily, without us even realising. Fascinating, huh?
So as you see, this infinite energy comes to us to make us who we are, energetically. The gathering of these tiny fragments of data are imparted into us as we move through life.
During these explorations of energetic expression, we get to ‘play’ in the quantum field.
The energy of ‘what is’, in all directions of time, seeming to collapse our timeframes and take a ‘quantum jump’ from one moment in time to another. These are the kinds of experiences once mused upon but now experienced by many.
When you apply this to the synthesis of the other systems, it’s awesome! We’re really quite incredible beings, just going about our business as we beam through life.
Yikes! You made it?!
You’re still here, after reading all that? Hope your cuppa didn’t go cold!
(well, maybe I do, except that my honest feeling is when something has ‘got you’, what’s one cold cuppa between friends?!
Now I’ve shared all that – I would LOVE to know…
What’s the one thing you found most useful from this post?
What’s the ONE thing you can’t possibly unknow? And what are you going to do with that insight? Could you drop it in the comments here? Thanks ever so.
And if you REALLY enjoyed it, I’d love to invite you to share with a friend (or maybe 2? Oh gooo on!)
