What is alignment? What does it mean and what are the benefits?
Every so often something happens that has you thinking “Oh, that’s what it’s all about“ – you’re in the right place at the right time. Maybe you’ve had conversations or encounters with the right people, and it feels like magic. That is how it feels to be in alignment.
With this in mind, I’ve got a story to share. I do love a story. It’s one of quite a lengthy process that seems to do have never had any kind of suitable outcome until, all of a sudden this week, pieces have all fallen into place – and now everything makes sense. If you’ve ever experienced this, you will know what I’m talking about.
First of all, I just wanted to explore a little bit about what alignment actually is.
The way that I describe alignment is that hoppy skippy sort of feeling where you just feel so right, everything in your life feels so right and all of a sudden it feels like 2Oh, okay. I understand what the point of something was. I really understand why I was being put through something, experiencing something or finding my way through something to get to this point”. And alignment is when all the pieces of that puzzle fall into place.
If it seems like for some time you might have been struggling with something, you’ve been doing the inner work on finding out who you are, understanding what you need, what makes you tick, that all of a sudden you go “ Okay, now that that’s happened. I’m ready. I’m ready for the next thing to come along”. It can be frustrating in that waiting period.
I find that the way that I communicate things best is by examples of things that have happened in my life at different times that can show you in real time what something might look like. Are you sitting comfortably?
It was this month six years ago that I had those light bulbs going off all over the place when I connected with my soulmate (click here to read more about our story). That’s not the story I’m here to tell you today, but it was genuinely one of those times when I was like, “Okay, I’m ready and I’m noticing everything that’s being sent my way. I’m acknowledging it, I’m embracing it”. So it often feels as though somehow the energy around this time of year has that sort of a feel to it – it does for me anyway.
This past week has actually been a culmination of months, in fact years of waiting for something to happen at the right time. This is in relation to supporting my young adult who has autism. He’s 25, he’s my son and we have been on a real journey with him. And over quite a few years he has experienced knockback after disappointment or blow to his confidence. He’s really struggled with his self esteem as a result of not feeling as though he is somehow in the right place, in the community or out in the world. He’s struggled to have a sense of who he is, where he belongs, what he’s supposed to be doing. And this has been really tough, both as his mum and his carer. I want to be somebody who has all the answers and I don’t always feel like I’ve had all the answers. And that sucks as a parent.
From time to time, we sit down, have a chat with him and see what are we doing about this. And sometimes, it gets us somewhere. Other times, we find things out and then it goes off the boil. Perhaps it isn’t the right time. About three months ago, we started looking into services that were available potentially, to support people like him with this. At the time. I read it and I thought ‘Yeah, right‘. There was something in the back of my head telling me, that’s not going to work. I wasn’t trusting the authorities, I wasn’t trusting anything. We’ve been on such a journey, but regardless, he sends an email enquiring about possibilities and we waited. And we waited – and didn’t hear anything back. Then last week, we revisited these conversations, what are we going to do now? And then it just came back to me. What about that those professionals who were supposed to be able to help him? Why don’t we poke them again?
This time, there was something there about it being the right time, clearly – because he sent an email, they came back almost straightaway with a positive response about space opening up quite soon. We might be able – and ready – to help you.
I beg your pardon? Really?
In the background. I’ve been doing lots of manifesting type work around each phase of the moon, where you set an intention, you ask for something, you put it out there to the universe, stating I’m ready for something now, please show me what it will look like. And I’ve been doing a lot of journalling about it, exploring what’s possible. All of that good stuff. And just waiting. Very, very patiently, as you have to tend to do sometimes.
Almost out of nowhere. He got an invitation for an informal chat with them last week. So I said Hey, can I go? It might be useful. (Of course). I kid you not, we sat talking to this guy and I genuinely felt weight lifted off me. It was as if there was big cloud just disappearing into the distance because he said all the right things, backed up with access to the resources to make it happen.

As part of the manifesting process, I did something called scripting that morning, which is where you write out how you want to experience your day, as if it’s already happened. And the meeting went almost word for word by what I wrote in my journal that morning, it was super powerful. I just figured, you know what, like, we’ve got nothing to lose. We really want him to get this support – he needs it. We all need it. We need to help him find his place in the world, but he needs it so much. I was just amazed we found the right people to help him. We’ve all been on such a journey, just a few years ago this young man was in such a tough, dark place, not knowing who he was, where he was going, where he belonged or what was next for him.
So to be in this position of finally feeling as though I’m able to hand some of that trust over to somebody else. He’s able to have confidence in somebody else, having his corner, guiding him, helping him to do all of the things around looking for something that’s going to suit him in the world. assisting him through the processes that are going to be needed supporting him while he’s in that situation.
The magic didn’t stop that day, good thing after good thing kept coming – and I could tell you the next part of this story but I think I’ll be better to save that for another time.
For now, just pay attention to how you’ve been feeling while reading this.
Do you feel ‘I wish that was me’?
Would it surprise you (really) to know that leaning into the idea of discovering who you are through the lens of Human Design can really get you back on the track of who you were born to be, so that alignment happens in a natural, flowing way? By getting to the source of how your energy flows you can experience more and more alignment because you live, breathe and respond in the way you were designed.
If you’ve ever experienced anything like this, this is sounding familiar and you’re like ‘oh yeah, I remember that when’… I really want to invite you to just be in that moment.
These are not conincidences.
These are a sign from the universe. A sign that you are on the right track. Quite often when we see these things, we experience them, but we just think it was lucky, or what a coincidence.
Try this for a change – take it on board for what it is. A giant flashing indicator from the universe saying keep going. You’ve got this. Because if you don’t acknowledge that and you try and talk it down then you might find yourself almost disappearing again off track. Because you don’t believe, you don’t trust that this is your inner wisdom at work.

This week’s card from the A-Z of self care is T for tapping.
Now, if you’re not familiar with tapping, I wrote about it in my self help book.
This card says “Release stuck energy and tap it out. Free yourself up to welcome in new energy”.
And the affirmation that goes with this card says “I stay well by releasing stagnant energy”.
So just to explore that for a minute. When anything is stuck is old or stale. It doesn’t have the same benefit as it once did. So if you think about soil as an example, if you’ve got a bag of old soil that’s just been sitting around, you can actually rob the plants that you’re feeding of nutrients, because the nutrients just are no longer there. Old energy is the same – stagnant water is no good. Because you’re not using a fresher better, more optimised version of that thing, for example if you don’t update your laptop with you know, the newest latest things, it might not work as effectively. So think about your own energy in that way, it works the same.
